A Unique Way to Decide

The Human Design System is a unique approach to understanding the human psyche, mind, and body, plus an individuals relationship to the world and sense of purpose. It is based on a combination of several ancient and modern wisdom traditions, including astrology, the I'Ching, the Kabbalah, physiology, psychology, and quantum physics.

One of the key concepts in the Human Design System is that of Inner Authority. Inner Authority refers to an individual's unique way of making decisions, based on which centers they have defined in their BodyGraph. Each defined center represents unique qualities that are consistent within a person, and therefore, are a reliable and trustworthy energy that is part of their True Self and authentic nature.

There are seven variations of inner authority in the Human Design System, each associated with a specific center in the BodyGraph. Understanding your Inner Authority can help you make better decisions and live a more fulfilling life by aligning you with your unique "correctness", a way of being that is right for you.

  • Sacral Authority: The sacral center is the source of our life force energy, and those with sacral authority make decisions based on their gut response and sense of availability. They need to listen to their body's response to a situation, whether it's a feeling of availability or a sense of resistance, to make the best decision.

  • Emotional Authority: The emotional center is responsible for our feelings and moods, and those with emotional authority make decisions based on their emotional feeling or state. In practice, it is ideal for them to wait for their emotions to settle before making a decision, as their initial reaction or response may not be the most accurate. Overtime those with emotional inner authority can develop a deep and profound sense of things. The key is to wait for clarity, to find as much neutrality about big decisions as possible, and to not let over excitement, or sorrow and disappointment, be the only feeling that determines their unique correctness.

  • Splenic Authority: The spleen center is associated with our instinctual response to danger and survival, and those with splenic authority make decisions based on their intuition, instincts, or tastes (likes / dislikes). They need to trust their instincts and listen to their body's intuitive messages to make the best decision.

  • Ego Authority: The ego center is where we find our sense of self-worth and confidence, and those with ego authority make decisions based on their sense of willpower and the correct application of their heart and ego strength in communicating or action taking. The Ego requires a balance between work and rest, so it's always good for ego authority individuals to consider this before making any kind of long term, consistently demanding, agreements or arrangements that may overly tax their willpower and strength. These individuals will be unique in that they will be either a Projector or Manifestor Type, so "working" should not be confused with "willing", as they are different forms of energy expenditure.

  • Self-Projected Authority: The throat center is associated with our communication and self-expression, and those with self-projected authority make decisions based on how their words and actions flow out of them when interacting with others, and especially in the context of an invitation, as these individuals will be a Projector type. Expressing one's unique love and direction in a way that makes them happy, is key.

  • Mental Authority: This is another example of an inner authority that is specific to Projectors. Having mental authority requires one to pay attention to the environments they're in, the people they're around, and whether or not what they are communicating and expressing is bringing them a greater sense of success. Additionally, it can be helpful for those with mental authority to use others as a "sounding board" so they can hear themselves speak about a decision that they may be faced with. Often, what they actually say will reflect their truth.

  • Lunar Authority: This inner authority variation is specific to Reflectors. Through basic study, reflectors can become familiar with the consistent range of definition they experience from the transiting gates of the moon. By giving themselves about a month to contemplate and discuss big decisions, they are giving themselves enough time to process a consistent range of energy they have become familiar with, and how that energy combines with the decision in question.

It's important to note that each individual's inner authority is unique and complex, and may be influenced by multiple centers in the BodyGraph.

A proper analysis of your inner authority will always include the context of what your specific inner authority center is connected to, while also taking into consideration whether it is conscious (black), unconscious (red), or in some way blended.

In addition, understanding the gates and lines activated in the channel(s) associated with your inner authority center gives further context, and can help to promote a greater degree of self-awareness and alignment with one's unique decision making process.

The Human Design System is not meant to be prescriptive or limiting, but rather a tool for self-awareness and growth.

Understanding your inner authority can help you navigate life's challenges with more ease and confidence, and make decisions that align with your True Self.

Whether you have sacral, emotional, splenic, ego, self-projected, mental, or lunar authority, embracing your inner wisdom can lead to a more fulfilling and authentic life.
